I have always been in love with towering trees and greenery. Even though I'm living in urban Toronto, this has been important to my surroundings. My yard has numerous trees and I've enhanced my mini-forest planting new trees and shrubs through a fabulous city program called LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests).
LEAF is a not- for- profit organization that is dedicated to improving Toronto's urban forest. They provide Toronto residents with trees and shrubs at a subsidized cost, that helps create greener and healthier neighbourhoods. Toronto has always been known for both its different and unique hoods and the amount of trees throughout the landscape and surrounding parks. This program helps you plant the right tree in the right place with their knowledgeable staff and on-site advice. They really take the time to find out what you want and the amount of light, soil conditions and space that your yard offers. They also recommend native species and locations that meet your needs and provide excellent follow-up. The best part of this service is, they also plant the trees and bushes for you and the costs are low! I'm amazed that within a few years, my own trees and bushes have grown to amazing heights and not only am I enjoying their beauty, but I'm also adding to Toronto's urban forest.
